For the Stage

My nearly 30 year theatre career includes work as an actor, director, dramaturg, costume designer and playwright. I’ve enjoyed time at and work with Actors Theatre of Louisville, Steppenwolf Theatre, the Guthrie Theatre, the Key West Theatre Festival, South Carolina Children’s Theatre, and many other favorite places.

A long-time adjunct instructor of Theatre at Wofford College, I launched the study of Theatre for Youth there.

Now I spend most of my theatre-based time writing plays. In Spring of 2022, my play The Missing Moon opened to packed houses at the South Carolina Children’s Theatre. Two years later SCCT hosted the official World Premiere of my D is for Dance Party with a sold-out and extended run. What fun!

D is for Dance Party:

Following the structure of the alphabet and filled with the creative chaos of a child’s mind, Dance Party explores letters, language, storytelling, and the big emotions that little kids often experience.

Warning: There are monsters. And worms.

Cast breakdown: 3 male, 3 female

The Missing Moon:

When bored Bianca Blue accidentally lassos the moon from the sky one night, things get really weird. High tides hit, strange stuff washes up on shore, and moon-obsessed Mona May leads lunar search parties. With music, waves of whimsy, and maybe even a sea-captain pirate goblin,The Missing Moon is a playful tale of friendship, finding our purpose, and figuring out that were better when were together.

Warning: There could be a goblin.
A mermaid, too, maybe.

Cast Breakdown: 8 roles. 4 female, 4 gender non-specific
Run Time: ~one hour
Original Music by Rachel Johnson; sheet music available

There Are Such Things

In this compilation of monster plays (for adults) Kerry’s short lyrical piece, There Are Such Things, examines truth, imagination, and magic. As a mom struggles with how to tell her child that there are no such things as monsters, the daughter (and the audience) have no choice but to believe what they see with their very own eyes…

Cast breakdown: 2 female roles; a monster (can be virtual or actual but should be seen.)

Run Time: ~10 minutes
